"...Wim Botha's work is informed by an ancient Roman sculpture with a pagan theme. His recent life-size linoprint titled APOCALUMBILICUS was first exhibited in January this year [2007] at Michael Stevenson in Cape Town. The linoprint depicts an adult and baby skeleton in a ravaged landscape, their pose derived from a sculpture of the mythological figure Silenus tenderly cradling the baby Bacchus. The original marble sculpture is in the collection of the Vatican Museum in Rome, where Botha documented it in 2000."
